Question on a topic I admit I am ignorant of: What's the difference between a presidential executive order, and these COVID restrictions from governors or the election rule changes in Georgia?

As far as I know, Executive Orders are basically congress being lazy and not passing anything, so the president just makes an order. And that's what the problem in Georgia was I thought-the rule changes didn't go through the state's congress.

So I was just curious - little bit of cognitive dissonance here, because I like what Trump has done with his orders, but I dislike local government doing the same thing with COVID orders, and then there's the whole Georgia thing

Executive Orders can be reversed by the next President, unless the President's name is Barry, in that case, activists judges work to stop the reversal until it reaches the supreme court.

But the DNI report isn't released until Dec. 18th, won't POTUS wait for that date?

The report must be in within 45 days. It is likely he already has it. Anyhow If POTUS is gunna use his powers you would think it will be some time soon maybe on the date you have suggested or before or after, or even today.

I think POTUS has already seen the DNI report but I think he will release it on Dec. 18th that way he can say that the report was fully vetted.

I am speaking from a point of no inside knowledge. Just a huge amount of positive wishful thinking.

Possible he could do it earlier - if his enemies are expecting it to be on the 18th then it'd be a nasty surprise to do it sooner rather than later.
