The cdc website altered the totals by clarifying comorbidity deaths (vs deaths of Covid with NO known comorbidities), but I still see fake news, Pedo and even Trump using the “larger number” total. There was a 94/6% split distinction.
One additional detail is that it is very likely that the CCP deliberately released the virus inside china to accomplish two things:
First, the basic situation is that the chinese people put up with the CCP as long as it is able to deliver economic growth. President Trump has hurt the growth of the chinese economy, threatening the CCP's hold on power. The virus helps the CCP maintain control over their own populace.
Second, china has the worst demographic problem in the world with their ratio of old people to young people (as a result of their "one child" policy that was in place for decades). The virus is deadly to old people, but is not serious for younger people, which helps solve their demographic problems.

The numbers are greatly inflated. It's probably comparable to seasonal flu numbers. It's still a lot of people who didn't have to die.
