They don't. In fact, advanced degrees and teacher's licenses don't really make or break when it comes to good teaching. The first can be useful for a good teacher -- they learn more about their chosen area; the second is a waste of time and money (and why it's required). I've seen people with bachelor's degrees who did quite a good job up into the 100/200 college levels (yeah, they're out there -- usually adjunct; the college can't find anybody else to teach the classes that semester). And somebody who is smart, has a decent HS level education, and is good with kids can teach elementary.
