I've read so much about the laws and procedures for this and I'm still not sure how today is gonna play out. I only know who will be President on January 20th, and it's not the guy who called the military "stupid bastards" for not clapping over his awful cringe speech.

At the very least, I believe it keeps the legal challenges alive in contested states. So if Trump wins those cases, the alternate electors would be accepted. I think that's what is going on
They'll count the democrat electors because they really really want them to count more. Doesn't matter, the media DOES NOT DECIDE.
It's now 146 Biden, 103 Trump. They probably won't acknowledge the dueling slates because fake news is fake.
