I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I honestly have no idea how this would affect our lives. Does anyone have a breakdown of what exactly this would look like for average citizens? Can we still go to work/grocery shopping? Should we have supplies or anything?

I honestly just want to be prepared for this possibility, but I have zero idea of how to prepare. I live in a rural/suburb area in Texas in case that matters.

During martial law the country goes into lockdown and the military are put in charge. Habeus Corpus is suspended during martial law rendering the courts inactive and meaningless. All arrests during martial law are made by the military and trials are done under military tribunals.

Abraham Lincoln when going through his reelection went through something similar as what were going through now with Trump. Lincoln declared martial law, arrested democrats and conspirators trying to steal the election and put them under military tribunals. He then used the insurrection act to do a do over of the election and have the military count the ballots, in which he won.
