The decision by the SCOTUS offers protection from states bringing cases on similar merits in favor of Joe Biden if Trump/Pence/House use their Constitutional powers to prevent an illegitimate President Biden. The states would likely not have standing in such a case.
The way I read this I see a good chance that the house elects Biden as president and thw Senate elects Pence as VP. I have absolutely no faith in the House of Representatives to vote for Trump even when each state gets one vote
If they are counting on republicans in congress to do the right thing, we're screwed.
