VP will decide what electors are counted, if the Repubs had none sent from the contested states, then that is foolish.
So , they sent repub electors so that when the sham is revealed totally and the VP decides to count repub electors, Trump has enough there to >270. This happened before in our history so nothing unprecedented.
If it does not resolve in senate, then 12th Amend kicks in, it goes to house, where Repubs have 30 states. Trump wins, but VP must be selected by senate
The legislatures could theoretically send in their own electors so no, such a thing is possible and has been theorized for months now, I am only asking if this is what is happening right now.
