But the thing is, the electoral college votes won't be counted until the 6th of January, and they are SEALED to protect potential faithless electors. Today is just another "projection".
Yeah I agree, but they are going on that projection, basically it's the electors saying "I voted like this", then sealed, sent off and will be opened in January. So while theoretically Biden won, I'm pretty sure that during the verification, there will be protests and the decision will fall to Pence, so Trump stays president.
But because of their silly rules, they are going solely on what the electors said they voted, which I say is bullshit, especially since the headline is "Next president"
Oh I don't disagree with your reasoning in the least. In theory, we have no clue what those electors wrote on their ballots. For all we know, there could be a pile of faithless ones in there. I put zero stock in what electors may or may not say, what's on paper is what counts. But I can also see why they are following convention. I have noted since I started watching them they try to be old school.

I remember what "news" used to be like, and even what I remember is skewed from what news was before I was born as infiltration had started to creep in by the time I was old enough to pay attention. Didn't many states send multiple electors? If so than wouldn't they count the total electors send today for each person. If so than Trump has more electors being sent and none have been seated yet by Pence.
I'm not 100% sure on how those rules work, other than the segment on duelling electors. However, they still voted for Biden so in theory he did win, the duelling electors come in to play on the 6th, where I'm sure the votes will be discarded, objections will be raised, and Pence will have the final say, so Trump remains president.
All in all, bullshit to go on electors confirming their votes and not wait til inauguration because the headline says "Next president". Even further bullshit to settle the votes now because even if electors confirmed Biden, they could have just said so and voted Trump, which wouldn't be found out until the 6th of Jan anyway
