Oh I don't disagree with your reasoning in the least. In theory, we have no clue what those electors wrote on their ballots. For all we know, there could be a pile of faithless ones in there. I put zero stock in what electors may or may not say, what's on paper is what counts. But I can also see why they are following convention. I have noted since I started watching them they try to be old school.

Not all the way there yet, since a lot of people wouldn't recognize or welcome old school "news" at it existed during the Viet Nam war and prior to it. I remember what "news" used to be like, and even what I remember is skewed from what news was before I was born as infiltration had started to creep in by the time I was old enough to pay attention. I would like to see that "news" return. But I doubt it will any time soon.
