Fistful of Dollars is the Western Yojimbo. A lot of westerns borrow heavily from Kurosawa's films. For as disparate as our cultures are/were, it's fascinating how you have analogous archtypes like the cowboy and samurai.
And "Yojimbo" was inspired by Dashiell Hammett's hard boiled detective novels. Which I also love. It's fascinating and fun tracing all the connections and permutations.
I’m Playing it now. Even after I’ve been heavily burned out with 3rd person, open-world, action/rpg games... this one is my favorite. I had no clue. I thought it was a mother Witcher clone. Fantastic game with Kurosawa all over it
"Ikiru" is also a favorite of mine. Are you into chambara? It's a subgenre of sword fighting films I really dig. My second favorite Nakadai film is a chambara called "Sword of Doom." I literally can't recommend it enough. Did I mention how much I adore Nakadai? I love Mifune too. But he always gets all the attention.
Concur. They all rule. "Yojimbo" is my favorite, especially Nakadai's performance. And I like "High and Low" (not a samurai film) a lot too.

Thanks! That sounds cool.

Deep cut recommend: Adauchi (Revenge) (1964). And this.
Thank you. Added to my "to watch" list. 👍
