There's a lot of speculation about what was real and what was media narrative about the holocaust. I can tell you as a fact that we know the US faked some of the evidence that they used for the Nuremberg Trials as a way to guarantee punishment against the Nazi military. The example most people talk about is how they explicitly converted (some) showers at the camps to resemble gas chambers. The functionality of the "chambers" literally make no sense when logically reviewed, but that was the media narrative. In fact, the showers more closely resemble the ones used at Ellis island at the time to prevent lice and diseases from entering the country. The counterpoint is that they claim (unofficially) that the actual gas chambers were destroyed and that those were a recreation of what they looked like for documentation purposes.
Another example. There are several mass graves that are reported to have the bodies of the Jews killed in the camps. Being that it's 2020, we have the ability to do ground surveys to prove what is underground, which is what we do for construction. Germany and the EU expressly prevent any "desecration" of these areas so no one can actually get in there to investigate. However, we can perform similar scans by a plane and get a rough understanding of what happened. Based on the documentary I watched, the area that is supposed to be the biggest grave is completely devoid of human remnants at the scale suggested by the Holocaust narrative. Whatever that means is up for you to determine.
