The primary job of a Supreme Court justice is to interpret the law in accordance with the Constitution. It is not the job a justice to secure the legacy of the court, avoid controversy or decisions because they may generate violence.

The courts legacy can only be secured by following the constitution faithfully to the best of their ability. Any justice who gives in to any other motivations, in their decision making, corrupts the court. Justice Roberts by is own words, is corrupt.
