President Trump is a true negotiator, businessman, and diplomat. His eyes are always on the prize, and he says what he has to say in order to smoothly move things along in the way he wants. It's not something I'd ever be able to do, but he can and does, and that's probably going to be for the best in dealing with this situation.

For example, I've long said that the last thing someone wants is for President Trump to call you "my good friend." That doesn't mean he doesn't say that about genuine friends, but he has a strong policy of keeping enemies close which he followed for decades from what I see. He schmoozes. He says "my good friend." He listens a lot and says little in one on one conversation (that isn't a tv interview).

President Trump calling Barr a great guy means nothing. It certainly doesn't mean he actually thinks he's a great guy, or that that will be the end of the story.
