I had to cut someone out after 28 years of friendship. Dude just drifted too far left at some point. It sucks because there's so much history, but it got to the point that he couldn't just avoid political discussion. I'm not going to lie, I wont be rude, I will tell you my opinion if asked. I'm acquaintances with many people who have different political views, we just don't bring it up and handle our business as needed. The problem(for both the left and right) is that when you make politics your identity, everything becomes political. I can talk about baseball without talking about the MLB bending the knee and losing my support. I can talk about cars without bitching about government regulations that make owning cool shit more difficult. I can talk about my kids' education without ranting about the teachers union and shit school board. I let the person I'm talking to steer in those directions, if they cant handle the road once they take the exit, they better find a way to turn around.
Great advice. I plan to adopt this right away. I need to decouple from politics a bit so it doesn't consume me. I have little problem associating with liberals. most times I can forgive them for "they know not what they do", but I do notice politics in everything and it'd be nice to turn that down.
Im not saying do or dont. But be aware that it's a thing you are doing. Sometimes you get more flies with honey type of thing too. You can drop those little undeniable red pills still.
I think being aware of it will naturally turn it down. I think part of it is just that we are all a little on edge feeling a little angry and helpless.
