I think there is far more at play here. If Trump was angry at Barr or his lack of action, he would be loud and clear. If he actually resigned, why did neither Trump's tweet nor Barr's letter mention resigning? There only fact we have is that he is 'departing December 23rd.' and Trump saying he is leaving just before Christmas to spend time with his family. That shouts leave of absence, not resignation.

Yeah the word resignation was never uttered, written or otherwise. It's only being assumed...

Everyone else who has resigned or was fired, it was clear.

If say theoretically, Barr is taking a break, I have been trying to figure out why. Either he wants to move Rosen into the AG position or Donoghue into the Deputy AG position. It could also be possible he wants Barr out of dodge for what is to come. If it is simply a leave of absence, it means Barr can return again without being confirmed.
