Dems lost the Prop 187 fight, but Leftie Judge tossed it out. With Prop 187 the Dems would have been done as a National Party; and gone back to being only a big-city corrupt Political Machine, eg Tammany Hall
The 1986 Amnesty wasn't automatic citizenship or anything of the sort; it only gave amnesty for the crime of being here illegally already. People still had to apply, and go through the whole citizenship naturalization process. Not everyone eligible applied, and not everyone who applied got in. The end result was about a 50/50 Split Dem/Rep; and like most all people (except deepstate compromised SCOTUS members); that batch of new Americans also tends to shift more Republican as time goes on, as they get older/wiser.
BTW even this very second, the things in the 1986 Amnesty Law are being used to BUILD THE WALL; some of us have been PRO WALL For 4 DECADES or a few generations now. So even with a DEM congress, all in all it wasn't a bad deal for CA, Republicans, America, Rule of Law, etc. The Dems continuing and accelerating their Open Borders AND combining it with recruiting marxists both illegally and "LEGALLY" with H-1B, student, and other visas has been the yuuuuge problem in how and why the GOLDEN STATE has been overrun with Election Cheating/Fraud commies.

I was on the topic of how I feel the Texas lawsuit was always a red herring and how it seemed only to be there to show a lack of partisanship from the justices. He said that he recalled you said the same thing and linked me to your post. Interesting read.
He could've been preoccupied or, perhaps, figured such a crackdown would undermine his efforts on more pressing matters. Or, maybe, simple corruption. Who knows. Either way, certainly not perfect. I wonder what his motiveswere.
