Consider this: The goal is to reunite this nation. What if SCOTUS had taken and ruled in favor of POTUS 5-4? 4 more years of "not my guy" is what would happen. Not only did SCOTUS align with the law, but in so doing, they took the "Orange Man SCOTUS" argument off the table.
