Example. Controlling an automobile. A new feature advertised for cars is the gadget that watches for when the car strays over the line while the driver is jerking off on his cell phone and warns him. It's saying, in effect, "You are too dim to drive a car, so we must help you."
If this is a problem for a driver, the driver shouldn't be allowed out without adult supervision.

I also work in Portland Metro, and no one here has a friggin' clue as to my politics, so I get left alone about it while I subtly redpill those co-workers with working eyes and brains. I doubt we work for the same employer, but you know what? Feels good, man.
I don't know how long you have been here, but remember when Portland was awesome? Good beer, weird, but kind people. Fun street parties, that are long gone because they became violent.
Yes! When Saturday Market was awesome, and when a random conversation with a stranger would turn into a meeting a new friend. The local music scene was worth a damn back then (well, pre-SJW), and a lot of awesome bands would stop by (Crystal Method, VNV Nation, etc) for small concerts where everyone got along. Everyone generally didn't give a shit what your politics, religion, or ideology were, as long as you didn't get too preachy or pushy about it.
I do remember, though only sadly these days. It was about the time when places like the awesome-but-little-hole-in-the-wall food joints and such started getting plowed under because gentrification. About 7 years ago or so, it all started to go to shit IMHO... the fact that you couldn;t leave anything in your front yard w/o welding it down, lest a TOM swiped it for scrap? That was pretty much the breaking point, I believe. That was about when I ditched living downtown (for years I rented a place towards the ass-bottom of 1st, around Lair Hill) and moved out to the sticks.

For what purpose? What would be the gain? I'm not technical and struggle to understand the entire SolarWinds thing in general.
Solarwinds is software that monitors the networks and servers. In some situations to get information, you need to give a lot of access to those servers. For network equipment, you give passwords to the gear so you can have it do backups of configurations. Solarwinds is now compromised, so by extension so are all the things it had access to. For organizations that use it, this is terrifying. Very terrifying.
So what's the joke about solarwinds hacking dominion? Just that they had their private information stolen? I guess I'm thickheaded.
Nobody has proof of anything, just that the timing lines up. The compromise means someone can remotely install and run software on your systems. They can also probably also alter logs to make it invisible so you will never know.
In other words, in theory someone could install software at dominion that would alter the machines or results, and nobody would know. But there is no evidence right now that dominion was the target. My company was hit also, and we have nothing to do with elections. We just use the product.

Which means they were in on it. Someone had enough compromising info on someone to force them to allow the back door Dominion access, so it couldn’t be traced. I wonder WHO that might be? I am looking at you, Google.

I used to use the Solar Winds suite at a previous job and liked it, it really helped me keep an eye on things over the eight counties I was responsible for. In my last job hovever, we are/were using PRTG instead. I retired from there in October and haven't checked in lately, but I know those guys are breathing a sigh of relief.
I assume for every product we know about many more we use are unknowingly compromised. Solarwinds will be the safe bet once this is over because they will have to adopt to a culture of extreme caution. If they survive.
"If they survive." They won't, per se, but they'll shape shift into a completely different company we know nothing about and do it again.

Didn't need to. An hour later I was doing a presentation and I had to share my browser. After I did, I noticed the first two tabs were td.win. Like a pro I shut them down without missing a beat.
I had seen something like solar winds keeps a ton of back ups a data and even if dominion deleted it on their end it could still be on the solar winds server and the hack could’ve been to delete the data Maybe they “hacked” nasa and everybody else as a diversion.
