But if he wants to gain public trust and prove his product is not dangerous, he should have been first in line.

Yeah, I can definitely understand that motive hah. I think it would be best to just wait and see what happens in my opinion, if he fires you, okay, you already have seniority, so clients would follow you, if not, you are on track for his position.
