Some things that stand out: you weren’t allowed to choose your own career, it was picked for you based of test grades and connections. Even if you had the best grades in your school you wouldn’t get what you wanted if there was someone with connections that didn’t like you or a classmate with high connections. Food rationing. You were only allowed x amount a month. People would starve. If you were a farmer and found to have taken more of the food you grew you would be severely punished because you’re stealing from the government. You’re not allowed to flee. If you attempt to they will kill you if they catch you and boast about it so people think twice. If you do manage to escape, the family you left behind will be ostracized and forced to move and work in horrible jobs or be jailed. Propaganda everywhere. Constant propaganda non stop. Cannot be emphasized enough. Massive pictures of the leader everywhere. All students needed to have their hair a certain way. If a boy tried growing out his hair, they would shave it. Mandatory military training for everyone. No religion. If you were found to say anything bad about the government you were considered treasonous scum and could easily face serious jail time. I have other stories of people having each limb tied to a car and the cars pull away. All because the young kid wanted to flee. Or how some kids would carve out watermelons and use them as helmets while trying to make a swim for freedom (talking about swimming many miles). They used the watermelon helmets as camouflage. If the coast guards caught them they would be gunned down no questions act. Parents wouldn’t be allowed to bury their kids if they did this.
