SIPRNET shutdown IS a big fucking deal!

EDIT: for those of you asking questions, typical non combat use is to periodically report the status of your unit or organization to Higher Head Quarters or even the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This could be the number of particular spare parts, vehicles or aircraft in commission, personnel accountability, etc.

Here, we send a report weekly. It is also used to report damage/casualties after an attack.

We_Are_138 [S] 181 points ago +181 / -0

just saw this post and copying here, you seem to get it. SIPRNet is the DoD's classified version of the civilian Internet. Access is available to trusted allies; Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. This group is known as the Five Eyes. SIPRNet was one of the networks accessed by Manning, leaking to WikiLeaks

Can't wait to see the GTA dissolve into ethnic factions when China and India go at it. Markham and Brampton will make Vaughn a neutral zone with based Italians picking off each side while the muslims in mississauga quietly breed out everyone.

Not sure Canada will be any of a better place under Trudeau than America will be if Biden gets in. But I'm pretty sure there will be a civil war of sorts and we'll carve out our own free land (with patriotic Canadians and Americans), and will have Trump as Pres. All of course if anything goes sidewards from the current plan.

For sure. In fact, BC was thinking of joining the Union back in 1860's, but then Canada (the East at the time) promised us a transcontinental railroad so we would join them.

I wonder what the founders of our country would say now if they saw how f*cked we're getting.

Globalist scumbag Klaus Schwab from the World Economic Forum has been telegraphing this for 6 months now. He literally told us this was going to happen: A "Cyberpandemic" that will be "far worse than COVID".

"DARK WINTER".

We've had a lot of warning and I confess I still don't have a HAM radio

15
Basileus 15 points ago +19 / -4

Almost certainly. The SolarWinds debacle will cause massive pain across the world in government and private industry. I wonder if Russia is really behind it

37
Hairy_Mouse 37 points ago +37 / -0

That's a weird way to spell China.

-9
Basileus -9 points ago +6 / -15

Take it for what it's worth, but most people in the know think it's a Russia-linked entity. They could be wrong and it could be China, of course

21
Left-Austin-4-freedo 21 points ago +23 / -2

Its china

6
zoangelic 6 points ago +6 / -0

10
mintscape 10 points ago +10 / -0

State actors take steps to appear as other state actors. Honestly, at this point no one knows except the party behind it. The Democrats will blame Russia as will their media, most smart people will blame China as they are by far the most active and the most brazen.

4
Basileus 4 points ago +4 / -0

It's not just Democrats tho, it's Information Security people. This didn't impact only government, it also affects corporations. Oh, and foreign governments were also impacted. It could definitely be China, but just as easily they could have been hit by it, too.

You are right that people are still figuring it out and are not yet certain of the scope or the actor

6
Hairy_Mouse 6 points ago +6 / -0

It could be, I was half joking when I made that comment.

Someone posted on here that they had a backdoor. Makes me think China, but you'd have to imagine it's one of China or Russia.

8
richmomz 8 points ago +8 / -0

The pain was probably inflicted a long time ago - we're just now discovering the wound.

5
Basileus 5 points ago +5 / -0

It could have been present for months, monitoring everything and learning how antiviral programs work. could just be the first wave

1
Amaroq64 1 point ago +2 / -1

The backdoor was present for months. And SolarWinds was signing updates to the infected plugin, meaning it was an inside job or they were infiltrated.

13

24
Robert 24 points ago +24 / -0

If you ever wonder why Hillary and the "gang of 8" were taking so many trips to our 5-eyes "allies", the answer is because they apparently don't log visitors in those shitholes, unlike us, and people with sec clearances can get access without a trail.

1
Amaroq64 1 point ago +2 / -1

So wait, American politicians can just go to our allies to look at our intel without a paper trail?

6
LostViking1985 6 points ago +6 / -0

That's the entire purpose of the 5 eyes network. And you simply ask one of our "allies" to spy on your citizens. That way you didn't do it, but you still get access to the data.

1
TheCandorist 1 point ago +1 / -0

You not American? Yes, usually. Just like the US uses those other countries to spy on people they can't legally then "accidentally" come across that information.

After this thread, I think we're all on a "list" out there and it's not just AOC's.

2
TheCandorist 2 points ago +2 / -0

sipr is used for, usually in my experience, anything Secret and above. We had specific fax machines, computers, and phones that were all on separate secure lines that limited people could use or access. They were completely disconnected from the standard routing infrastructure and the cables certainly within our hangars were specifically and boldly identifiable.

Yeah.. they might well be removing SolarWinds SNMP strings because of the hack, It affects anything running SNMP including routers, switches, servers.. you name it SolarWinds moniros ALL devices on a network. They are not going to "wait till the weekend" if their network routers and switches need to be reconfigured because they're at risk! Might be something else but I manage networks and know how much a disaster this hack is for network engineers.

Is read only by default yes. But can be write enabled. this isnt just about SNMP btw.. SolarWinds also audits network devices and computers for software licensing therefore needs elevated permissions to scan hard drives and registry. If those access credentials are farmed you have a world of shit to deal with and resolve.

10
SobekRa 10 points ago +10 / -0

Shutting down the internet would send people crazy across the board, making them uncontrollable. Not to mention the unthinkable economic damage, and the precedent. I don't think it's realistic for more than a day, and that would already be a huge deal

10
Postal 10 points ago +10 / -0

You want to talk about economic damage... Look no further than a stupid ass virus

9
SobekRa 9 points ago +9 / -0

Economic damage covertly targeted at small retail businesses

Everything that directly or incidentally benefits from online has gone ballistic. The ccp virus was the perfect excuse to wipe out a fragmented unorganized segment of the economy and acquire all their mass of revenue

The internet is required to keep the gravy train going, not least for indoctrination and brainwashing. It's the main pillar keeping the whole circus act up. Shutting it down could have unpredictable consequences

If they do it, you know they're ultra desperate that's for sure

7

7
Postal 7 points ago +7 / -0

I'm not too worried about it so long as the power grid doesn't go but I'd be perfectly happy if the internet got shut down for Christmas so that we can go through and fix everything and find every hole in leak and get rid of the communists and all the bad actors for good

TrumpVoter1 1 point ago +1 / -0

I don't think they will. Think about it from a hospital perspective. Many major health care software vendors host the EMR for hospitals now instead of the hospital doing it and incurring that cost. The loss of internet would a major, and I mean MAJOR health risk for any patients that need to be seen

4
anon2468 4 points ago +4 / -0

I think there will be a short internet shutdown for a few days[up to 10?] when its go time to prevent enemies from coordinating.

4
Postal 4 points ago +4 / -0

Coordinating is one thing... but I think it would be to shut down all nefarious internet activity from bad actors/CCP. Take it down, fix/reinforce your systems, then let it back up all good to go. If anyone blames Trump, fuck em, wasn't his fault all this has been allowed to happen. Like getting mad at the dentist because your teeth are rotting from meth.

DoD network = rfc3330 7.0.0.0/8 space and does not route on public routers same as rfc1918 space. That being said they most likely have gateway services in/out and this is where SolarWinds would be used. Some ISPs even use 7.0.0.0/8 space as private VRF/MPLS space as it’s that separates out of the rest of the public internet. Ok - just FYI from an old tier one network engineer.

4
Forloveofcountry 4 points ago +4 / -0 (edited)

All SIPRNET network works on electronic encryption that is updated periodicaly and allows SECRET classified info. If you don't update you lose connectivity. This is a HUGE deal, how is DOD communicating with classified info? I have never seen SIPRNET shut down, thats GOVERNMENT wide. All government with classified access uses SIPRNET. IF THIS IS TRUE THEN SOMETHING CONUS IS HAPPENING. Just read whole article- if they shut it down for a couple hours then they may have updated the encryption, when they update encryption its pushed out to all, down to the lowest levels and at a planned time all assets updated using digital encryption device that takes a minute or two.

1
TheCandorist 1 point ago +1 / -0 (edited)

It's probably not to dissimilar to what we did when we ever thought our frequency hopping codes might have been compromised in the aviation world. We would have new code tapes brought all over by armed military couriers and we would have to destroy the old codes and then reprogram every single jet.

It's possible they found that the original patterns, which are similar to how we would work with codes on tapes essentially, and are distributing new seed information for all systems. Plus it allows termination of all sessions and forced password resets while purging suspect users.

I was in the air force and the only reason I was sidearm qualified since I was in a more technical maintenance role was because I was on the list of people that could fly with our pallets that had our safes with classified content onboard and they weren't supposed to be left unattended. Was pretty lame. Nobody really enjoys flying on those damn planes.

4
highmoves 4 points ago +4 / -0

Research dispersive which is used by the nsa and other gov agencies. Basically multiple encrypted tunnels over multiple wand so a mitm can’t work unless end devices are compromised where they recombine the streams. They also have tech that does the same thing over optical networks (layer1) from a defunct company they got access to during a patent query. For you young pedes out there looking at IT, focus on security and IT forensics.

siprnet is supposed to be fully disconnected from the main internet. Why the hell would they do that unless someone patched it into the regular internet infrastructure or they have identified democrats and chinks downloading off of it?

Everything on the internet is “internet protocol” (it’s the IP in IP address. And every home had at least 1 router. It’s not a secret - we’re talking about it right now. I know less now than I did before.

This global network of routers is disconnected from the live Internet we use. There is no connection between the two. It's an internet for U.S., Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, and New Zealand to communicate, send data, etc. without the major security risks of sending them through live networks. They shut down this network most likely due to Solarwinds. The data going through these routers is at high risk, and they have to dig through routers and switches all across the network to weed out vulnerabilities. It's a total trainwreck, and right now there is most likely an army of engineers working on this.

  • There is supposed to be no connection between the two.

It's possible there was by someone committing espionage that triggered this.

It is possible for sure, but the point of the system is to be separate from the actual www. I assume they have net bots that attempt connections using www DNS lookups, and the moment one of those ends up working they know the exact router that is connected to the www, and that the network is compromised.

Totally. I used it in my military life. It's supposed to be separate. I worked in hangars. The network lines for it were clearly marked. It's totally possible someone spliced in or some commie simp was manually transferring data. All it takes is one entry point.
