My personal preference is one with no magnification or 1.5x at the most. Short range and fast target acquisition is key. Great in the states and counties that have shotgun only big game seasons.
Definitely start with a flashlight. Stream light, sure fire, inforce, etc. For red dot I’d go 1x, I like the holosun 510C as it’s affordable and has a Wide open sight picture, also turns on automatically. Romeo 5 by sig is good too, both pretty reasonably priced. Buy ammo and practice first and foremost!
Bird shot is decent but Turkey load is better for home defense . Buck shot will work too and those slugs will kick like a mutha but will put a hole right through a wild hogs head.
No Need 12ga shotgun has about a 3-4 Ft pattern with #4 Buckshot and 40 yards At 10 yards it would be about a 12" pattern, #4 buckshot is a ball about the size of a small ball bearing. Just point and shoot. I'd load as follows shell 1&2 #4 Shell 3&4 #1 Buckshot and Shell 5 Double 00 Buckshot for the longer distance. You'd load 5,4,3,2,1
For home defense, get a red dot with "shake awake" or one that will last years while being on like an aimpoint. I would recommend a simple shotgun with a bead, but it sounds like yours is already ordered.
Planned on doing that, was considering ordering another trijicon since the ACOG 4x32 I have on my AR has impressed me but was curious if the recoil shock would destroy it. Already have a rail light to attach. And definitely headed to the range with it, have never shot a shotty before.

All you need is buckshot and hip fire

Ty!
Nah, just point and shoot with turkey load
Already got my 00 buck, should I get bird shot as well? Have 200rd of slug coming too.

I had a laser on my glock 29. It lasted one clip before it blew apart. That's why I'm curious if accessories will be worth it on a shotty.
Might take you up on that. Quail, pheasant or duck?
Send a message to the office of the president elect. He should be able to tell you.
