There are a couple of family members we no longer speak to because they can't keep their liberal bullshit to themselves. The condescension pisses me off so much. There is a smugness that just gets under my skin, it's like they talk to you like you're stupid, with that bug-eyed "this is to show you that I'm listening" stare when you talk, with the exaggerated head nodding.
It's lonely being able to think for yourself, and your family are conformists who are afraid of communistic freedom suppression tactics, aka cancel culture, so they conditioned themselves to self-censor their individuality and become one with the fucking borg.
Yeah, luckily it's just 2 of them. They live on the other side of the state (PA near Philly). They show up a couple of times a year and you'd think they were visiting a remote tribe in the amazon to participate in whatever us simple folk are doing. It's been an eye opener for me personally, because my other side of the family is what you might call "hillbillies", and I used be embarrassed by them when I was younger, but now I see them as real people, real Americans
