Darwin's Theory of Evolution was actual critical thinking to disprove the false notion of intelligent design. I'm all for questioning the status quo but evolution? Really??

Yes really. If you are a Christian, it's not such a leap of faith to at least question a dominant scientific theory that is supposedly "off limits" and antithetical to your beliefs. That is especially true when Darwin's Theory, admittedly did nothing to explain the Origin of Life. Don't you think it is interesting that a theory that has been used, so widely, to disprove creationism, never actually proved how life was created itself? It almost seems like it might have been pushed with a particular agenda in mind.

But setting that aside for a moment. It is an interesting phenomenon that so many people choose to never question a "scientific theory", written so long ago, and based largely on anecdotal observations. It's almost like scientific methods have not advanced since the days of Darwin.

Question: are you going to believe a person to explain the Theory of Evolution when he and many other scientists, at the time, believed that cells in the human body were just some non-descript goo?

I urge you to watch this lecture about some of the weaknesses of Darwin;s origin of Species.

There was also a lot of politics (lobbying) involved in the legal decision to exclude all other explanations of biological origins and diversity in US schools. Most of the debate was centered around the separation of church and state. Again, another interesting documentary for you to watch:

Having said that, my original post was not intended to encourage people to totally disregard Darwin or accept God as the Creator of the Universe, but rather as an exercise in critical thinking.

I think it is important to challenge young people to rigorously challenge the information available to them. There is no such thing as a scientific theory that is written in stone. So, why does one apparently exist, namely Darwin's Origin of Species. This type of critical thinking is extremely important, especially now when traditional schools have become such incubators of indoctrination.

Sorry but Evolution isn't just some pseudoscience based on some dodgy results, its a fully formed scientific theory that has been proven beyong a doubt

If you don't know or accept basic evolution theory then why are you homeschooling???

Just because you have a headache doesn't mean you should attempt brain surgery

No scientific theory is ever settled beyond a doubt, because new evidence can emerge. That being said, natural selection via evolution is about as close as you can find to a theory that is proven beyond a doubt. I don't understand how people can recognize heredity (inheriting of parent's traits) but deny evolution, there are the same thing.

Ehh. Definition of terms might help here. I’d say it’s hard to argue that positive traits aren’t passed along by “the fittest.” I’d also say that if you think there was some primordial sludge and the current state of the world, including biodiversity and the natural order of things, came about through a series of happy accidents, then you’ll believe just about anything. These days, “evolution” tends to mean the latter, which is not only unproven, but arguably the biggest hunk of bullshit ever foisted on humanity.

I guess part of what I was thinking when I posted this was to try to get people to think critically. Darwin's Origin of Species is a long standing example of what happens when people don't question the science. I wonder if there is a more current example when people have been encouraged not to question the science? I can think of a biggie and there is always a political agenda behind it.

I’d agree. Even in a Catholic school, Darwin was taught pretty much as fact. Approaching it logically, though, natural selection makes sense; the idea that we evolved from some randomly placed single-cell organism does not.

I like seeing people’s faces when I tell them I don’t believe in “evolution.” They’re shocked - which I think goes to your point.

There is actually a large part of Darwin's Theory that is based on anecdotal "evidence". There are large gaps that have not been explained. I am not suggesting this as an answer to everything, merely an exercise in critical thinking. I think that any scientific theory that is supposedly "off limits" and not allowed to be questioned, is probably the theory that we should question the most.

There was also a lot of politics involved in the decision to only teach Darwin's theory as "decided" science. A lot of it centered around the separation of church and state.

Here's a decent documentary on how that legal struggle went down.

When you try to be all scientific... But link to a You Tube video lol

rawsalt [S] 0 points ago +1 / -1

That particular video was intended as a description of the political battle fought, in the courts regarding the exclusion of all other science, other than Darwin's Origin of Species in US public schools.

So, you dumbass comment is what happens when you try to knock someone down for trying to be all scientific but that moron didn't actually watch the video. lol

Lol you seem extremely TRIGGERED over a lighthearted jokey comment sweetheart

Calm down, if you wanna believe the Earth is flat or that Evolution isn't proven beyond a shadow of doubt, then so be it

Just don't cry when people don't agree with you or make fun
