If we are to embark on another effort to rid ourselves from tyranny as so many "keyboard warriors" here (myself included) have clamored for, we must try to understand why so that we never have to find ourselves in this position again. So that the sacrifices that our forefathers gave are never put into question again.

Yes. It is important to recognize this. To be aware of this is already a step in the right direction.

As odd as it sounds, there must be an institution that simulates strife and struggle. The people must be kept sharp. But how? This kind of long-term thinking and planning is too difficult. Our systems of government aren't there yet.

Not a bad idea . A good way to learn love of country. Also important to know our history. To not be ashamed of it.

Yes, it is definitely a complex problem. To maintain awareness of this and be able to reform or correct our path as it happens is key. I think staying grounded in spirituality is an essential component. In regards to staying sharp, I feel that the conversation about the Amish above has relevance.
