I think people are looking at this the wrong way. His whole point was that he doesn't want the production shut down because it will cost everyone working on it their jobs. His concern is that if they don't strictly follow the rules, the nazis who make up the arbitrary rules will shut them down, or someone will get sick and then the nazis will shut them down. He's not saying he likes the rules or thinks they're medically necessary (he may believe that but he doesn't mention it here), he is entirely concerned with the fact that keeping their production going means keeping people working, means keeping those people from losing their homes/food/whatever.
So it's actually a commendable sentiment. What's lamentable is that they are even being forced to follow that bullshit. Just goes to show what a life without freedom can look like.
100%, if you listen to it he’s concerned for the people who need to feed their family and send their kids to college. Most entertainment jobs are pretty blue collar.
Yeah - I felt bad for the people getting ripped, but Tom Cruise wasn't in the wrong. He's gotta make sure the movie stays in production - it matters for not just his paycheck but thousands of others. That's a lot of responsibility.
Yep Tom Cruise was based here. His arrogant staff were acting like they were too good to follow the rules that everyone else has to follow and he kicked their entitled asses.
Sure, but he could be using his status to Rip into the California government but he doesn't. He takes Newsom's rod up his ass and takes it out on his crew.
If these celebrities got together and shouted from the roof tops that lock downs need to stop because of all the reasons he listed, it would make a huge change in public perception, but they choose to be bootlickers.
Why would he make politically divisive comments? Especially when his crew (and producers) are almost certainly lefties? Personally I've never seen Cruise make a political statement on anything, which is smart.

I didn’t hear 1 time “MuH PaNDeMiC!” He’s trying to stay open just like the rest of us.
