What fucking morons. Breaking into a house in Louisiana. Almost a guarantee the homeowner has multiple guns and has been salivating to shoot intruders.
Louisiana Pede here. The Northshore, generally speaking, is very safe. Saint Tammany Parish is one of the safest areas in the country. If this happened in Hammond (maybe certain areas in Slidell) this wouldn't be a surprise, but not in Lacombe.
The police can charge you with the death of someone who was killed as a result of your felony. You did not need to kill said person or even directly cause said person to die. It requires that: (1) defendant commits a felony, and (2) someone gets killed while felony is being carried out.
If a person robs a bank, and the police accidentally shoot three people dead while attempting to shoot out the robber's tires, that would be three counts of felony murder for that robber.
I personally think that intent and direct cause should be required in EVERY felony charge, but I don't make the rules. According to the SCOTUS, if you had the intent to commit one felony, then [you are evil and] all other connected felony charges do not need your intent to directly cause them. I can't say whether I feel satisfied by revenge on this particular case or if I feel that justice was truly served by charging these guys with felony murder.

It's near New Orleans, so these idiots were probably expecting a house that had their guns confiscated after Katrina.

Charge their families too and cut off all welfare permanently.
And pay for the kids surgery.
A true patriot.

When did this evolve into a Big Mike thread?
Felony murder is a funny thing.
