I just wanted to shitpost on /r/politics as I'd done for 5 years leading up to the night of the 2016 DNC Convention. The next morning is when the bots and digital branding shills flooded that sub and disrupted all productive conversation by low effort name calling, comment stacking, and acting as repeater for CNN headlines.
That process was equivalent to megaphoned protesters storming the town square and preventing public expression of free speech. Digital platforms are the common areas for discourse today.
The digital branding teams from newsrooms, the media matters programs, set the Democrat party back a decade by pissing off professionals and critical thinkers using those places. No conversation was prevented. The only impact of their hostile megaphoned display was to piss everyone off. The town walked out of the common square, and right into side rooms where ten new town squares emerged. The_Donald.win is one of them.
That conflagration we see today is the natural response to abusing the public with systematic campaign to shame, threaten, and intimidate to bully your way for power. Most do not respond to these and will push back with increasing number as they discover the source of that harassment.
