Because they do not claim to be a platform, they scrupulously edit and fact check before publication. 230 protects a service that users can post to without any intervention (aside from minor content moderation). Clearly big tech has abused the content moderation allowance, but there is no doubt that 230 never would protect a site like wikileaks that has to manually approve all content before it gets posted.
