He has suffered more than any of us can imagine. All because he shined a light on all the illegal, immoral, murderous crap that governments were doing.

This has to reach from here to GEOTUS.

I'm interested in a factual and realistic analysis on whether or not President Trump has the political capital to pardon Assange, and whether or not it's a wise idea. I'm looking for reasoning that is not based in emotion, please. I "feel" the same way as you do. I'm a parent, it's unconscionable that Julian has young children who--correct me if I'm wrong--have never even been able to meet him in person? One is a six-year-old?

Fuck "political capital" -- it is RIGHTEOUS.

Right!.....politics ruins everything

This. How else do you hold an entity who is responsible for it's own oversight accountable without he power of pardon?

I agree; nonetheless, a lot ELSE is at stake here. Timing and optics ARE important.

Valid concern. I think Trump creates political capital by pardoning Assange. I would also pardon Snowden.

I honestly don't understand the Snowden h8 on this site...

This guy put his life on the line to share NSA abuses... I don't care if he doesn't like Trump he's a Saint as far as I'm concerned and he was way ahead of the curve....

Snowden doesn't want Trump to pardon him.

And Snowden hates Trump. He may have even said he would refuse a Trump pardon.

I think Trump creates political capital by pardoning Assange.

While that's not the reason he should pardon Trump, your thought is very likely correct, as it creates new & additional grassroots appreciation for Trump which could be politically useful for fighting the 2020 election steal, or for a 2024 White House run.

I think Trump creates political capital by pardoning Assange.

That is an interesting take, I hadn't looked at it that way. Thanks! Still hoping to hear from people who "know" but it's nice to have a positive perspective.

Do you have have factual evidence or reason to believe that Trump needs more political capital, that pardoning Assange would be bad optics, or that bad optics right now over this particular issue would hurt his second term?

I'm not trying to be snarky, your perception of the current status is just a complete 180 from mine and I'm trying to see where you're coming from.

It's simply the right thing to do. Fuck political capital.

No, I'm trying to get more information from people who understand the legal and political realities at play here and are able to separate them from fee-fees.

They know Assange has near total popular support with their base.

I hope so.

Trump has until the last day to pardon him. Pardoning him right now will take focus away from the fraud and hurt his case.

I can think of at least one person who suffered more.....all because he shined a light on all the illegal, immoral, murderous crap that the DNC was doing.

Jarlason10 15 points ago +17 / -2

Idk man Assange hasn't even been able to see his family for almost a decade now.

24
bill_in_texas 24 points ago +26 / -2

How long has Seth Rich been deprived of being able to see his family?

Jarlason10 8 points ago +10 / -2

Fair point.

dGPOFniqsrZF 3 points ago +5 / -2

Based on how much time he's personally experienced: zero time. It's his family and loved ones who have suffered his loss the most.
