This is from 2011. Assange calls to US State Department trying to stop a release of CLASSIFIED diplomatic cables archive.
WikiLeaks had a archive of cables. They were at the time releasing small portions of these cables, only non classified. By the time of the conversation Assange says there were multiple location of the material on the internet which he did not control and an encryption key which opens this archive.
Assange say that it was a former employee of WikiLeaks or someone connected who leaked location and encryption key for the full archive. Making it available in many places. Assange learned about it from german and denmark newspapers touching back with Assange.
Assange expected this to blow up and classified cables to be made public. He was in contact with the State Dept. trying to make stop/mitigate. He says multiple people more and more are known to have both key and locations.
Assange was doing legal effort in Germany trying to slow down the release. But he at that point was saying that the key was on the wild and was beyond media contact who could be persuaded.
Assange say motivation of the individual was just competition to WikiLeaks, trying to create another organization and tarnish WikiLeaks at the same time.
I'm not saying who was who. I'm saying what Assange said to the State Dept guy. If you ask me I believe that there were multiple agents of multiple states playing this game and I can't imaging that it were just private people and some journalists only. Can't be.
Assange believed in what he was doing, and some of the original volunteers did as well, but the organization was infiltrated early on, just like the rest of the media.
Yes, I have no doubt that Assange himself and some people around him were 100% honest. But the whole thing was so valuable to any gov intelligence that it had to be swarmed by all kinds of agents and everyone started playing their own games and counter games against the others.
Brief:
And I've only got first 30 minutes in
I think that employee was an intelligence asset. So were those fags at the Guardian and NYTimes who put the password in a book. Bad people.
