This isn't entirely true. For restricted firearms you need a transit permit, which is a blanket permit that you apply for once. This let's you take your restricted firearm from your house, to the range, or to the gunsmith. Going anywhere else you need to phone in for a permit.

Non-restricted firearms are just that, non-restricted. Not saying it's right but thems the facts.

If your firearm is on the newly banned list I guess that's true - you can't move it anywhere.

After bill C-71 was passed you must obtain a new ATT every time when visiting a gunsmith
