Seriously though, I believe that people who have convinced themselves that they can do better than nature are making a grave mistake, and this hubristic attempt to alter the pace of evolution, micromanage the environment and rebuild humanity in some fairy-tale image of perfection is going to have catastrophic consequences. You can give a chimp a machine gun, but that doesn't make it ready for the responsibility.
Yeah, it's gonna get ugly, and the pace of "progress" is accelerating, but there's no uncrossing this Rubicon. Clown world is going to keep getting crazier because too many people don't have enough faith to take their hands off the wheel. Everybody wants to be the chief, but nobody wants to be the brave. What they fear most is a reality they can't control, and so they try to mask their terror of the chaotic nature of the universe with illusions of power. For these timid people, freedom is a dirty word. Mankind, in general, is recklessly charging "forward" but too blind to see where they're going, and so focused on chasing the will'o'wisps that they're forgetting all the lessons of the past. They assume that their victory is assured and whatever order they can manage to impose will always be under their dominion. They are sadly mistaken. Nature cannot be tamed, and she gets real ornery when you try to box her in.
