The President:
- Elected by We the People via the electoral college.
- Limited to 2 four year terms with a maximum of 10 years served.
- May be removed from office before his term expires, via impeachment and removal vote in the Senate.
- A veto may be overridden by 2/3 Congress.
- Must seek re-election after a 4 year term by We the People via the electoral college.
Congress:
- Elected by We the People.
- No limitations on time served (unfortunately!)
- Must seek re-elected every 2 or 6 years by We the People
- Legislation passed may be either vetoed by the President or deemed Unconstitutional by SCOTUS.
SCOTUS:
- Appointed, never elected by We the People.
- Lifetime appointments, never held responsible for their actions good or bad.
- Decisions cannot be vetoed or overruled by any other branch of government or We the People. Only by a future SCOTUS, or Constitutional Amendment!
Basically SCOTUS is a 9-man Dictator-for-Life Branch of Government, that simply can dictate the law, with no repercussions, CHANGE MY MIND!
You need to read WHY it is set up that way before you criticize it. No system on earth is perfect, we do however have ways to change some things. Provided we actually get the leadership we elected legitimately. Otherwise it's over.
Ok educate me WHY was it set up that way?
With a lifetime appointment, and not elected for term, there is no need for them to be beholden to a particular party, nor the whims of the voting public. Provided they are not removed for criminal activity and bad behavior, they are beholden only to their views on the constitution. However we now have members that are beholden to their ideology above all, even the constitution. That is why there are an uneven number, and the reason there are so few of them. Uneven numbers have no need for a tie breaking ruling, and more justices would mean the court would be deadlocked in perpetuity, resulting in the court being completely useless, in that the cases being heard would never see a final judgement.
You realize, those same excuses were used for Monarchy? By placing checks and balances on the other 2 branches of government, they limited the damage an individual who, "are beholden to their ideology above all, even the constitution", by having a lack of checks and balances on the Supreme Court we now have people with lifetime appointments who, "are beholden to their ideology above all, even the constitution."
"We are beholden only to their views on the Constitution." Yes, just like with a Monarchy, we are beholden to not an objective view of the law, but a subjective view of the law. And just like monarchy, the appointments are for life. I thought the Constitution was supposed to free us from tyranny?
Another thing to realize, Rome was the las "republic" to global stage setting. It lasted 200 years and some change before it was turned into an monarchial empire under caesar
The check and balance on them is congress, if not corrupt, can remove them by impeachment for crimes or behavior, like for arrested driving drunk but no victim. As well as they are not the body of politicians that legislate, if not corrupt and legislating from the bench. Again, our form of government is for a moral and religious people, it is inadequate for any other. A republic if we can keep it. That means keeping our morality, even in the halls of the White House, the Congress, the Senate, and the Judiciary. But muh separation of church and state.........is what got us here.
