Look up liberator pistols. That's literally their purpose. Cheap, crappy, low round count pistols that were mass produced and dropped in countries being occupied by Germany during WWII. Then idea was you'd wait until a Nazi was off on his own (taking a piss, puking after drining with his buddies, etc) and you'd execute him and steal his gun instead. As long as you pick the time and place, the fact that your weapon sucks really doesn't matter so much. You'll be walking away with theirs instead.
People say that, but it's not true. Hi points are probably going to go bang, and very well might be just as reliable as your favorite. They're not really known for not running well. They're known for having horrible balance, rough fit and finish, and having an unconditional lifetime (of the firearm) guarantee.
