But did you think in the event of a happening you'd just walk down to the local walmart and pick up a box of shells? It's hard to find ammo because everyone is buying ammo. Also, you should try online. It won't be cheap but you can find ammo to be delivered to a local gun shop for pickup.

Now that I've gotten past the part where I act like an asshole. Let me give you little hope. As long as you've got enough to defend your home, if and when things really get so bad that there is any type of open armed conflict people with supply will be more than likely to hand them out to people willing to stand with them. One man can't shoot fast enough to empty all those ammo crates, now can he?
