They wouldn't attack the US, but they could absolutely target our weaker allies throughout the world. There is a reason why President Trump said that those countries were absolutely reliant on US support. For instance, China has wanted to annex Taiwan for a long time now, but it hasn't been able to because the US has pledged to defend it in a war. With the US distracted by a civil war, they could easily just swoop in and conquer the island. Also, effectively every US ally in Eastern Europe besides Poland is so weak compared to Russia that it isn't even funny. Russia could easily take control of all the lands east of the old soviet border plus Fennoscandia. By the time a civil war would end, I wouldn't be surprised if at least half of current US allies around the world would be taken over by US enemies such as China, Russia and Iran.

They’ve already attacked the US. Our economy has been decimated. Our elections have been hacked. They are in bed with our Congress...sounds like attacks to me.

And the virus. At minimum they didht do shit to stop it and made it seem worse than it is.

Well, by "attack" the US, I meant by conventional means of warfare. Seeing how they have an interest in harming the US, they absolutely do try other, sneakier methods to cause damage which they know that they can get away with.

Russia is not an enemy of the US.

They are our opponent, but they don’t have to be.

They only team up with China to stand against us.

They shouldn't be, but the actions of past presidents have made it so. For instance, Obama's sanctions caused massive damage to the Russian economy, and the Bushes/Clinton flagrantly violated their promise not to extend NATO beyond the borders of Germany by getting most of Eastern Europe into NATO. Because of that, NATO troops are now stationed dangerously close to St.Petersburg (in Estonia) - and Russia would certainly want at least a bit more buffer room between its core and NATO bases. It's also why they took Crimea after Maidan - they didn't want a US ally to control such a vital piece of territory just adjacent to core Russian territory.

I bet that all of that could be fixed, though, aside from the NATO thing, unless NATO ends like it should. I believe Trump said something about that.

Put nukes on the island and give them to Taiwan. Tell them they are defensive only.

-Winnie the Pooh glances at Taiwan-

"DEFENSIVE USE!" -Taiwan

💥💥💥💥

And I am fine with that.

I don’t think Russia would do that much
