But, as tonic water contains quinine, which is useful for fighting malaria, I wonder if tonic might possibly maybe work like hydroxychloroquine, which also fights malaria.
Mostly meant it as a joke. But I am still curious if tonic might help get zinc past the cell membrane.
Maybe I’ll DuckDuckGo for info and update what I learn.
Not to sound schoolmarmish, but tonic water has A LOT of sugar in it and sugar is bad for your immune system. So maybe the quinine would help, but I think at best you'd have a wash. Happy to have this hunch proven wrong by experiment, though.
Not a Dr. myself, and I figure you are just joking, but you can probably get quinine as a liquid extract somewhere.
Update: Yes, quinine is a zinc ionophore. So it works the same as Hydroxychloroquine. But I suspect a person would have to drink a heck of a lot of tonic water to get good affect.
Translation: Quinine can help Zinc move into the cell and help it remain there longer. The presence of Zinc and\or its Ionophores makes it harder for many viruses to reproduce themselves.
Don't overdose on HCQ, you'll die, it can also help other ions accumulate in your cells, such as Calcium(II)
Curious if a Gin and Tonic is a suitable alternative to hydroxychloroquine. Asking for a friend who can’t get a prescription.
I think just about anything will work against a fake hoax virus. A gin and tonic will make your survival rate 99.7%!
Tastes really good too. Little splash of sours, rocks, gin, tonic water, gentle stir. Refreshing...

Tequila and lime/simple syrup? Rum and coke?
Sounds good! Especially if the Tequila is Patron!

Some people are taking quinine as a supplement, so that angle makes sense...

Yep, just joking. And, great point about the sugar.
