It's probably a Dune, not theological, reference.

No, it's a Warhammer reference.

https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Emperor_of_Mankind (I'd suggest reading it all because it's interesting fiction, but focus on the "Original Origin" section)

TL;DR extra-dimensional daemons born from human wickedness had taken shape and began to feed on human souls when they died and returned to "The Immaterium", or the astral plane. Realizing this, many Shaman and other psychically powerful humans held conclave and determined that the only way to face the demons of the warp and avoid being consumed was to commit group suicide so they would all arrive in the Warp at once and could fuse into a single powerful soul. And boy, did it fucking work. They incinerated everything that was waiting at the boundary to feed on them, and reincarnated together into "The New Man", his psychic energies so great that they re-shaped him in the womb into an immortal and powerful psychic being. From that point on, he would lead Humanity and protect them against the daemons of the Warp (the name for the now-corrupted Immaterium)

Warhammer players rightly see some parallels and it's fun to think of President Trump as our own God-Emperor, born and\or sent to lead us against the daemons currently consuming our planet--figurative or otherwise.

Also there was the power armor trump float which just makes it even better.

Where would you suggest a newbie to enter the Warhammer world? I've seen many references to it and your TL;DR has really piqued my interest in learning more.

Do what I did, go to the wiki and just read your ass off. It's all interesting. I'm not sure how much I'm interested in the tabletop game or making figurines and painting them (it's a black hole for money if you're not careful), but the lore and writing are awesome and you can draw a lot of parallels to the real world through fiction if you are wise.
