Solar Winds produces network management and monitoring software. One of their products, which is used by the Military, NSA, Fortune 500 companies, etc., was compromised back around March 2020. Installing the patch for the product in question installed a backdoor and let hackers access the network.
This was such a sophisticated operation that it could only have happened with the support of a nation-state and/or it was an inside job.
It's a third party companies and many alphabet agencies use for remote verification. They were compromised allowing nafarious actors to gain access to protected systems.
Can explain what Solar Winds is and what happened? Info is moving so fast, I can’t keep up! Thanks

Thanks for the explanation. I just got an email at work from a vendor who was impacted by it so it piqued my curiosity.
