Not disagreeing with your points at all, but I wouldn't necessarily say an EMP is a nuke. Nukes do/can cause an EMP, however there are likely non-nuclear EMPs as well, such as a (Explosively pumped flux compression generator bomb), which uses a bunch of capacitors, a coil/stator, and some explosives to generate an EMP.
They're definitely pulling out all the stops though, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there was an EMP that ends up taking out networking/telecoms for a bit. Archive everything you care about offline, who knows how long we'll have working internet. I'd say we likely won't have extended power outages, but really anything is possible at this point.
