A few key points you are missing. Even if the electricity for the batteries comes from coal power plants the electric motor is far far more efficient than the gas engine. So still much better environmentally. Also the batteries are upwards of 95% recyclable. Finally most the waste when creating the batteries is in supply chain and manufacturing inefficiencies which Tesla is fixing through vertical integration on a massive scale. I'm Def not some eco freak but I just point out misinformation when I see it. My next car will 100% be a Tesla but as someone said above it will simply be because they are a better car in every way.

UBI and Negative income tax were once proposed as a sugar pill replacement for existing entitlements (back when there was a lot of FDR and LBJ socialism in place to kill wealth with double digit inflation) until the snakes inside the Beltway twisted it into an addition.
As a replacement, either scheme would be far less spending and far less of a bureaucratic nightmare than what is currently in place. But good luck finding 51 concurrent senators who wanna be taken out of context as "the guy who killed Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid".

Elon's Semi trucks and other delivery type trucks, then heavy equipment, earth moving, cargo handling are going to make him a lot more money than cars...He is positioning himself towards that heavy industry market ideologically. How many car owners burn 75,000 a year in fuel? Trucks and heavy machinery can... That fuel saving over the life of machinery can offset much a more expensive purchase price and greatly increase the manufacturers profit....
