How about a compromise?
We need to press people to start doing hard things and making sacrifices. If we are going to win this, it will not be convenient nor easy. Two days of travel is nothing compared to the difficulties that everyone will face if we follow through and actually resolve this.
The benefit of DC is it takes the battle to it's primary source on a day that can actually change things, if it succeeds. Sure, the likelihood of success is slim. The other advantage is it puts a lot of like minded people in one place to meet and coordinate on a large scale.
That said, going out to your state capital is better than staying home and posting shit on Twitter. If that is really all anyone can do, it is a big step up.
The overarching goal is getting people off their keyboards, actively engaged, and physically with other people with whom they can coordinate next actions.

Our fight to occupy those spaces is one in which we have the moral high ground before we ever get started and should fully exploit that for all of the obvious reasons and benefits to our cause that can come from conflict involving OUR institutions and the inevitable attempt to keep us from being in those spaces. Lot's of visibility there.
