The reason is the difference in personality traits, value systems, and loss avoidance that conservatives have. Conservatives are largely law-abiding members of society with families and commitments. These ingrain a sense of duty and a sense of purpose, which creates hardened resilience against adversity. This is why conservatives are able to "go with the flow", even when the current flow upsets them. They are adaptable. Many are from rural backgrounds where survival is just a way of life. Many are religious or believers of western civilization's values of stoicism and will power and believe in the idea that, no matter the adversity against you, you make the best of your circumstances.

The opponent, on the other hand, is largely made up of a mass of low inhibition grunts with little purpose and low loss avoidance. This is caused by characteristic victim-enabling behavior and sense of aimlessness. This is also why most communist revolutionaries were aimless youngsters. Purpose and responsibility (the ability to bear a load and fight against it) drives our side. It threatens them. And so they fight against it with everything they have. For if they must confront the reality of life absent purpose, it would surely destroy their identity.
