Problem is no matter how polite you are they see you as rude. This Hostess had his/her mind made up about this couple long before they said anything, if you read what he/she wrote. I also see nothing rude in what was said to the Hostess, and in talking to the manager the couple was making a point using the term "Gestapo".

Pretty sure a hostess is a she. If it were a he, it would say host instead of hostess.

If they are rude, they are rude. I go into places all the time and refuse to wear a mask, but I am always completely polite about it, and leave if that is my only other option. But out of the many times this has happened, only once have they been rude to me. They usually apologize for the situation, and I leave.

In the end, businesses can require whatever the hell they want. It's a private business. And as the consumer, we can choose to give them our money or not. The problem is that many businesses are FORCED to comply by illegal mandates.

And while I agree they should all be fighting it, it's entirely unrealistic to expect that. Most people will comply because they can't afford to be shut down.

I agree, private businesses can set their own rules. It also sounds like their was a city or state mandate. I've also had many places refuse my businesses and some were polite, others were not. All I was saying is we can't tell from what was written who started the rudness, if their actually WAS rudness, etc. From my opinion of what was written, the writer had formed an opinion before any interaction had taken place. That could have colored their perspective of the interaction.

I agree that being firm but polite is the best way to proceed. My only debate here is that we can't assume anything from this, as it's only one side of the story and appears severely biased.

Agreed.

I just believe that when people DO act nasty about face mask requirements, among other things (and we've all seen this happen), it only hurts the side of truth, which was my only point. It's misdirected anger.

Certainly not advocating we take the nonsense lying down, but advocating that we educate when possible, and are always kind -- which will have the greatest effect for the cause.
