We are getting prepared for possible war. I know there are tons of websites about survival prepping, but thought it world be useful to start a thread of useful ideas. A lot of the survival sites, look to be wanting to sell items. Anyone else stocking up know?

Not a Mormon, but hit the latter day saints food prep websites. They keep 1 year pantries. I only keep 9 months at most, just shy of that now.

First, figure out what you use in a month. make a checklist of everything you use. When you finish a roll of TP for instance, mark it on the checklist. Mark everything you use for one week. it is really helpful to have a food scale or accurately document total food use. Then multiply all items by 4 for a good ballpark. So, with TP, if you use 1 roll a week, you use 4 a month.

Then, portion control. Find out how much food you actually eat a week. Food scale and cronometer as a tracking app shows you where you are nutritionally, and shows you how to get as close to 0 food waste as possible. it also shows you who needs more or less calories. Do the same with all household items. Most people use far more laundry detergent, dish soap, shampoo etc than they need. learn how little you need and stick to that.

Meat products for most nutrient density and most bio-available proteins. All meat has lots of micronutrients in it, they just aren't on the label. But they are in cronometer if you use NCCDB entries. Cheapest meats are 10 pound bags of chicken leg quarters at Walmart, around 70 cents a pound. Save and freeze the bones to make bone broth for soups, stews and drinking. Ground hamburger.

Eggs are cheap and keep for months in the fridge. get large eggs.

Canned fish. Tuna, limit to 3 cans a week for adult males, LIGHT tuna water packed. For Females, 2 cans a week unless pregnant or breastfeeding, I went to 0 during those times. Children, 3 servings per week at most. Canned salmon, get pink wild caught. Walmart brand works fine. All canned fish other than King Mackerel and Tuna are not a mercury problem.

Every fam member gets one NEED on the food list. Mine is diet soda, hubby's is chocolate lol. But that need is portion controlled as you wish.

That's the basics. If you need help with pantry management I know my shit lol. My entire pantry is now shelf stable other than what is in the fridge, we unplugged the freezer a few weeks ago. We are packed and ready to move in a few weeks.
