I think it's the willful action of taking your own life that constitutes damnation. The Bible instructs "thought shalt not kill" (KJV Exodus 20:13). Taking your own life intentionally is thought by many to fall within the context of killing. Certainly going somewhere cold and freezing to death unintentionally would not be a willful action of killing oneself. But I think you get the point.
