My son had it last December, I am convinced of it. Woke up one day all flush and when I took his temp it was 103.3!! I immediately gave him Advil and within 20 minutes(it was the liquid suspension kind) it went down. No other symptoms for like 5-7 days just had to give him Advil every 4-6 hours or his temp would spike again. Took him to the docs and they just said it was a virus and it had to run its course. About day 9 he said to me "dad, I can't smell or taste anything" I just chalked it up to a cold but he correctly reminded me that his nose was not stuffed up. I didn't think to much of it at the time and he was all better in 10-11 days. But I have been taking care of kids for 25 years now and this was definitely a new bug but like you said, not even as bad as the flu, from what I witnessed. But the media and politicians have hyped up the lethality big league.
