There are lots of approaches to this that I've entertained like military service, etc, but the one that I think makes the most sense and is the most fair, is to make a law that in order to vote, you must have contributed a certain percentage of your income for the year as taxes. Let's call it 15%, but the number isn't important for the sake of argument.
This way, nobody is excluded by any unfair means. Your vote is tied to your tax status. didn't pay taxes? You don't vote. It applies equally whether you are rich or poor. Made a billion dollars this year but dodged taxes by hiding it in the Bahamas? No vote for you. Leeched off welfare or drew unemployment all year? No vote for you.
Only people with a vested interest, skin in the game, get to vote. Best of all, it's not a permanent status. You can always pull yourself up by the bootstraps and do better nd earn your vote next year. Nobody is excluded by identity, just gotta change your circumstances.
Honestly, everyone can talk about arbitrary restrictions on voting but aside from being a citizen and in good standing, requiring you to be paying your taxes is not a bad one.

There are lots of approaches to this that I've entertained like military service, etc, but the one that I think makes the most sense and is the most fair, is to make a law that in order to vote, you must have contributed a certain percentage of your income for the year as taxes. Let's call it 15%, but the number isn't important for the sake of argument.
This way, nobody is excluded by any unfair means. Your vote is tied to your tax status. didn't pay taxes? You don't vote. It applies equally whether you are rich or poor. Made a billion dollars this year but dodged taxes by hiding it in the Bahamas? No vote for you. Leeched off welfare or drew unemployment all year? No vote for you.
Only people with a vested interest, skin in the game, get to vote. Best of all, it's not a permanent status. You can always pull yourself up by the bootstraps and do better nd earn your vote next year. Nobody is excluded by identity, just gotta change your circumstances.
