Just a quick note on this comment. Taking someone's name in vain refers to a woman getting married, taking her husband's name, and then acting as if shes not married to him via her behavior (cheating, etc). Some people "take the Lord's name in vain" similarly by accepting Jesus and what he's done for us and continuing to act as if they hadn't - doing the same exact things as before. What this doesn't mean is cursing.
"Do not carry the name of the Lord thy God in vain"
Meaning do not commit evil in the name of God. Think of the damage Catholic priest do when they sexually assault young boys, not only are they sinning by theyr action but they are breaking the 3rd commandment by being a public representative of God and committing evil.
Yes but in the same context, including Lev 19:12, look at Jeremiah 5:2. Although don't get me wrong.... Foul language is something that should be avoided especially if you are going to use it as a characterisation of God like some do. I was just pointing out that the verses have been missused due to missunderstanding/misstraslation like a lot of The Bible.
FUKN OMG Thank you! I've been sayin this shit forever. Sayin God Da__it feels weird to some ppl bet sounds bad to a lot but No one actually means to command God to damn anything & even so that still, to me at least, doesn't reach the level of importance that this commandment implies. It never sat right w/me.
Now being a monster cult leader to have access to women, children, vulnerable, weak, or dumb people for your perversions, abuses, or to take from & using God as your cover THAT IS FUKN TAKING the lords name in vain. Being a foundation named after a saint, church, maryter, a priest, an angel etc & stealing the money or scamming the people thats taking his name in vain. Being a representative of any religion in any position & abusing in any ways its members is taking the lords name in vain.
I feel like this should be common sense. If you seriously consider the commandment & the implications this is the only logical definition, idk.
But I've said this out loud to ppl & they act as if I'm a pagan heathen speaking venomous lies & conjuring blasphemies. So I keep it to myself
I'm glad it helps. Remember it's "carry the name" not take. Yes God is logical if something is inconsistent it's usually because we have failed to understand or its translated poorly. Here's another bomb for you guys .... It doesn't say thou shall not kill ... King James version should be thanked for its contribution to society but put away and left for historical reference, it is simply bad..... It actually says "Do not murder". Now use guns to defend yourself and your family without guilt 😉
yeah that sounds about right & I'm Spanish raised Roman Catholic sooo... My mom would have ripped out someone's heart w/her bare hands had she discovered something crazy fukd & dark shit. If she had I firmly believe shed still be good w/God. Her faith was/is immovable
The only reason I'm still here is in fact in spite of my foolish, rebellious & ungrateful ways & only because of that woman & her tearful pleading w/God.
I was a fukn horrible young adult he didn't do it for me thats for sure

Correction to both
Translation from Hebrew is:
"Do not carry the name of the Lord thy God in vain"

True that.
